
Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh, the mother of social service is the founder of Andhra Mahila Sabha and a number of institutions under its banner. By establishing these institutions, she spearheaded a relentless crusade against illiteracy, ignorance, social injustice against women. Under the umbrella of Andhra Mahila Sabha several educational Institutions, Hospitals, Health care centres, Rehabilitation centres, Social Welfare organisations, legal aid cells etc., are now functioning in and outside the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh, received several National and International awards in recognition of her relentless struggle to bring about social justice to down trodden and suffering women. The note worthy are "Padma Vibhushan", a prestigious award given by Government of India, "Paul G.Hoffman" award for 1978, an award by Paul G.Hoffman awards fund was presented to her contribution to social change in India, especially on behalf of Women, children, the ill and the handicapped.
Andhra Mahila Sabha Arts & Science college for women was started in the year 1968 by Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh, of which she is the founder president. We cherish the ideals of our beloved founder and strive to work up to her expectation.
